Santa Maria delle Consolazioni o degli Zoccoli

Via M. Francesconi, 22

The Church of Santa Maria delle Consolazioni stands on the site where in ancient times there was a church dedicated to the Blessed Virgin of Consolations and a small hospital dedicated to Sant’Antonio Abate. The name “degli Zoccoli” refers to the footwear traditionally worn by Franciscan friars. Until a few years ago, the Church housed a precious work by Giovanni Battista Cima da Conegliano, the painting Madonna with Child, created in 1504 and currently preserved at the Museo Nazionale Atestino. Currently owned by the Municipality, the building retains mostly its original structure and appearance. However, the serious conditions of disrepair and degradation that affect it have made a restoration and conservative redevelopment project indispensable. The design intervention takes up the guidelines of a previous restoration from 2004, providing for the restoration of the functionality of the roof covering, the verification of the state of conservation of the primary and secondary wooden framework, and the consequent consolidation operations. Further specific interventions include the consolidation of the foundations, the restoration of the wall lesions, the reinforcement of the vaults of the side nave and the restoration of the cornice of the main nave.
